Ziele / Inhalte / Arbeitsweisen:
Victorianism was the English period that saw the most changes. Changes in all aspects of human existence. But the technological innovations that were introduced during this period stand out in particular. On the one hand, Victorianism embraced all these changes, but on the other hand, there was a growing number of critical voices that sought to highlight the disadvantages of industrialisation, especially the exploitation of the emerging proletariat. Elisabeth Gaskell's novel North and South paints a picture of the fictional town of Milton, which has dedicated itself to cotton processing. Gaskell explores different points of view and makes positions clear so that we as readers can compare them with each other and then evaluate them in order to situate ourselves.
Der Roman sollte vor der ersten Sitzung gelesen sein.
